Our School

The Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Laboratory School mission is excellence in childhood education, teacher education, and research in an intentionally diverse environment.  At Jackman ICS, we create a secure learning environment that inspires exploration, creativity, curiosity, and confidence to flourish.  We honour diversity and value a deeply interconnected community, in which all members feel known, respected, and supported as active participants.

Since its inception in 1925, the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Laboratory School has been a place where children grow mentally, physically, and socially. Within our classrooms, children are challenged to think independently, to use their natural curiosity to critically investigate the social and natural world, and to gain the skills to communicate with others, becoming engaged citizens. Children at the Laboratory School learn to love learning.

The Laboratory School is a Nursery to Grade Six elementary school in downtown Toronto. It is part of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. A satellite Jackman ICS classroom at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation School provides an Integrated Junior and Senior Kindergarten Program (IKP) for children with and without special needs.

As a Laboratory School, Jackman ICS makes a noted contribution to the understanding of strong educational practices in elementary schools, and Faculties of Education in Canada.
